Hey!

In this blog post, I will be writing about someone or something I want to declare independence from.

When in the course of human events it becomes necessary for me to dissolve the bands which have connected me with taking tests, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that I should declare the causes which impel me to the separation. I would like to declare separation form taking large tests. This is because taking large tests can stress out many people. This can even cause them to get worse grades on the test. I also think the large test that give you your final grade does not acuratly show how much you actually know. This is why I think large test are unfair to many people.

Hey!

This blog post is about the two poems we wrote and why these two people are leaders in the book, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.

Junior is a leader in this book because he is a Native American in an all-white school and that can take a lot of courage.

Rowdy is a leader in this book because he is strong and confident with who he is.

Junior

I am from the Naive American tribes
From poverty

I am from the reservation
I am from my home
From the same place
Never leaving

I am from the tribe of kids who miss their best friend
From “I’m sorry”

I am from disabilities
I am from people making fun of me
From always being called names

I am from the tribe of cartoonists
I am from the ones who draw
From “Life is more simple that way”
or
“Everyone can understand”

I am from running fast, to get away
From trying to find my identity

Rowdy

I am from Native American tribes
From poverty
I am from Washington
I am from small towns

I am from the reservation
I am from  having to be tough
From not showing anything

I am from being damaged goods
From being bullied
And
From being the bully

I am from the tribe of small-town kids
From growing up that way
And staying that way

Hey!

This week in history we are studying the thirteen colonies and the lives of the colonists. Today I will be comparing and contrasting my life to the life in the colonial era. For example, the education was different. The wealthy planters usually hired teachers to teach their younger children, the older children were often sent to schools in cities far away, for even England, for a better education. Religion was one of the most important things in their life. It is similar and different to our lives. It is similar because their were many different religions, but it differs from us because they had to travel many, many miles to find a place to have religious freedom. There family life was usually different from ours as well. That is because the man usually worked and the woman stayed home to clean and cook (if they had no slaves working for them).

IDENTITY

Hey!

In this blog I will be writing about the "tribes" I most identify with.

In Sherman Alexie's novel, The Absolute Diary of a Part Time Indian,  Junior belong to many different tribes, just like we identify with many other tribes or groups of people that can relate to what we can. I identify with with the tribe of vegetarians, the tribe of tennis players, and the tribe of Californians because I have lived here my whole life. I identify with these groups  because they have been apart of my life for many years. Just like how Junior may identify with the things he has had in his life for a long time.
